A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop, while small, is intact. The artefact is in good condition, with a dark green patina, and ochre-coloured patches of corrosion. I. Szymanski reports that some red enamel survives on the face, although this is not clear. Some gilding also survives. The face bears a design, cast in relief, of a lion rampant, facing left. Szymanski has provisionally identified this as the arms of the earls of Arundel. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.

A cast copper-alloy shield-shaped horse harness pendant complete with suspension loop and hinge pin. Design of a lion rampant on a gold ground. The edges of the gilding have rotted in such a way that a series of layers of colour are visible, running through bright gilding, tarnished gilding and pale green gilding residue. There is also a distinct stripe of deep red on the body near the third leg, and a number of tiny specks of the same colour scattered over the body, suggesting that the original arms may have been or, a lion rampant gules. Measurements: Shield, 18.3 mm x 24.5 mm, wit…

Cast copper alloy Medieval harness pendant, 12-1400 AD. It is a shield shaped pendant with a circular attachment loop set perpendicular at the top. The loop is now broken. On the front is a lion rampant left. The field is filled in with red enamel. The lion could have filled in with another colour enamel but this is now missing and it is just the metal showing.

Description and discussion supplied by Irene Szymanski. Description: Quatrefoil-shaped copper alloy pendant with bent suspension loop. The pendant has a raised border and frame for a lozenge-shaped central cell; within the cell a lion rampant, and within each of the lobes of the quatrefoil a fleur-de-lys. A small amount of red enamel remains within the central cell, and areas of blue enamel beyond it. The lion and fleurs appear to have been originally silvered, along with the frame of the central lozenge and the outer edge of the pendant itself; it is likely that the back was also sil…

A cast copper alloy medieval harness pendant. The piece is shield-shaped and decorated with a heraldic style device. The front face has a lion rampant inlaid in enamel on a gilded background. The original colour of the lion was probably blue from some of the surviving enamel, but some of the enamel appears red (this is probably due to corrosion processes). There is a suspension loop at the top. The rear is plain. A blue lion rampant on a gold background may mean the piece is connected with the Percy family whose arms include this device.

A small cast copper alloy medieval mount, probably a harness pendant but possibly some other form of mount. The pendant is shield-shaped and decorated with a heraldic style device. The front face has a lion rampant inlaid in red enamel, on what was probably originally a blue enamel background with gold borders - flecks of gold leaf still survive on the front face and sides. The rear is plain, and was possibly also gilded. the top edge has been damaged and it is unclear whether there was a suspension loop for the piece to work as a harness pendant, but there probably was.
