A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is intact and the surface has some corrosion, which is half dark verdigris and half light turquoise. Part of the iron hinge rivet survives. Much of the original blue enamel decoration survives on the face, forming the ground/ outline of a ‘lion rampant’ facing left, with a forked tail. I. Szymanski has identified this as the arms of the Stapleton family. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.

A cast, copper alloy pendant and hanger. Although much of the enamel and gilding has been lost (scraps remain), the underlying metal is in very good condition, and the pendant is exceptionally heavy for a piece of this type. The piece shows the original design clearly, displaying arms of "azure semy of fleurs-de-lys and a lion rampant or surmounted by a bend company argent and gules". back unseen. Measurements: 25.5 mm x 30 mm (including loop 40 mm), plus hanger 47 mm, thickest 3.5 mm.

Copper alloy heraldic horse harness pendant dating to the 13th century. The pendant is shield shaped with a complete suspension loop at the top. The pendant is decorated on the front with a single lion rampant on a blue enamel background. The tincture on the lion has almost completely been lost but there are tiny flecks of Or (gold) in some places. This particular charge could be connected to one of several possibilities including the Nevilles of Essex and Nottinghamshire; John de Neville joined the rebellion against Henry III and, as a consequence, forfeited his lands in 1266, bei…

Copper alloy heraldic horse harness pendant. The pendant is shield shaped and has an integrally cast pierced lug which would have been used to attach the pendant to a hanger so that it could move freely. The pendant has enamelled decoration depicting a lion rampant gules (red). The background of the pendant has largely worn away although there is some remains of gilding at the neck of the hanger suggesting that the ground may have been gold (Or). This gives several possibilities for the arms:
1) Robert de Felbrigg who is recorded as using ‘Or, a lion rampant gules’ and …
