The object is lunate or crescent shaped with the main body in the form of curving folds, tapering from the centre to join at the terminals where there is a swirl inwards at both ends. An incomplete copper alloy Roman stud or mount dating from AD 43 - 410. It is circular, solid and domed, with a groove round the domed boss. On the reverse is the stub of an integral central attachment shaft. The shaft is circular in cross-section. The stud is 15.8mm in diameter, 7.8mm thick and weighs 2.39g. The design is very similar to boss and petal Roman mounts and button and loop fasteners, but the plate is circular, not teardrop shaped. The central position of the attachment shank suggests it is not a button and loop fastener; contrast YORYM-AC7C5D which has the same d…

A circular mount, probably of the Roman period. It is made from copper alloy, and curves into a hemispherical dome, at the rear of which is the remains of a stud by which it was fixed. It is decorated on the face with concentric circles around a central raised circle. Although there is no discernable trace of enamel, it is likely that some of the inscribed circles had millefiori enamel inlaid, as this is a feature of these objects, and there is evidence of some highly corroded material. The finder notes that it is similar to one found at the Roman bath house excavation in Car…
