An incomplete Roman military copper alloy pelta-shaped mount (c.AD 100-300). The front of the item is slightly convex, with one long edge being curved and the opposing edge having a pair of cusps flanking a central bifurcated projection. The interior curves of these cusps have bevelled or chamfered edges. The object is badly corroded, but there is no evidence of any attachment scars or fittings suggesting a function as a vessel mount rather than a harness fitting (e.g. Nicolay type A11).
