PROVIDENTIA AVG reverse type depicting Providentia standing left holding corn ears over modius(?) and anchor? This is a contemporary copy or hybrid combining types of Julia Mamaea and probably those of Severus Alexander. Prototype of the mint of Rome. Cf. BMC VI, p. 212, no. 1002 for a similar hybrid example. It is 18.8mm in diameter and 2.1mm thick. It weighs 2.36gm.

This is probably a hybrid or mule with reverse type of issues 14 or 15 (cf. BMC, p. 196, no. 813 passim, p. 201, no. 875 passim; cf. RIC IV.2, p. 89, no. 252) with an earlier obverse legend. Almost half of the coin is missing due to recent breaks.

An incomplete (damaged) contemporary copy of dupondius or as of Julia Mamaea (AD 193-235), probably dating to the period AD 222-235. Reece period 11. The coin appears to have a lead alloy core and two separate copper alloy obverse and reverse plates. The majority of the obverse legend is missing but the letters V and possibly L are visible. The reverse shows Venus seated left holding a statuette (possibly Cupid) in right and sceptre in left. Possibly RIC IV 702 or 703.

This exact coin is unpublished. A coin, listed as a hybrid in BMC (BMC VI, p. 219, no. 1068) is exactly the same except for the reverse legend which is spelt SECVLI FELICITAS. The style of the BM coin is more Eastern and is recorded as such in RIC (RIC IV, pt 2, p. 93, no. 299). This coin appears to be more the style of the Rome mint. It does appear to be regular.
