A copper alloy needle of uncertain date. The need le is complete but bent. Unusually, it is made from rolled sheet metal and the damage in the centre reveals that it is hollow. The needle is oval in section tapering to round in section towards the point. The head is slightly flattened and cut into a lozenge shape (a pointed end). The seam in the rolled sheet metal is along the centre of one face, and on the other face, a central groove was cut. An incomplete pendant whetstone of uncertain date. The object is formed medium to dark grey fine grained and micaceous schist. It is rectangular in form and cross-section. At the top of the object the stone has been carved forming a circular collar and rounded projection. On top of this a piece of lead has been cast forming a 'cap'. Cast copper-alloy Roman bow brooch of Kräftig Profilierte type, dating to 43-100AD. The brooch is complete apart from its missing pin. The spring has 6 coils and the external chord is intact. Nine Roman pottery sherds from a bowl, of a Gaulish ware (AD43-410). This large rim sherd is from a bowl with a squared rim and rounded shoulder. The shoulder is decorated with bands of horizontal grooves and the surface is burnished right up to and including the rim. Beneath the shoulder is unburnished. 1st-2nd century AD copper alloy probably pole-mounted and skirted terret. The terret consists of a loop formed by two opposing arch-necked horses' heads, whose chins rest on their breasts. There are additional holes behind the horse's lower jaws and also through where the ears would be. The function of these holes remains obscure. Cast lead coin mould of Roman date. Roughly square in shape. Lower half measures 27mm by 36mm and is 6mm thick. On three sides a triangular lip extends upwards to clasp the upper half in place. The upper half is slightly smaller to enable it to be clasped in place by the lugs. It measures 33mm by 27mm and is 5mm thick. The straight back edge appears to have been folded over rather than placed on top, suggesting the the item started out as a one-piece rectangle and was folded over. The first batch of the coins in question was discovered in November 2010. They were recovered by the finder over an area approximately two feet square at a depth of about 9 to 12 inches. The discovery was reported to the local Finds Liaison Officer (Rachel Atherton) in December 2010. A Roman stone fragment from a rotary quern dating AD43-410. This is part of the lower stone of a hand turned quern made from volcanic lavastone from the Mayen-Niedermendig area of the Eifel Hills region of Germany. The fragment includes part of the outer edge and the inner edge to the spindle. The lower surface is pecked and the upper surface and the outer edge are dressed with lined tooling.
