Lead weight. Cast cylindrical weight with a finely incised design on one flat face. The weight has been carefully moulded, lacking the shrinkage lines which can betray the use of an open mould. The design comprises the outline of a plain cross whose centre is marked by a drilled pit. A hand-drawn centre line passes down each arm of the cross, and there is a suspicion of chevron ornament springing from that line. A pointed rhomboid defined by two incised lines is nested in each angle of the cross. A single shallow pit is placed within each rhomboid, and also within the fields remaining…

The fragment is torn, partially folded (this does not appear to be a deliberate act, but probably occured post deposition) and incomplete with parts of the coin design missing. The folding of the sheet has obscured much of what remains of the reverse of the coin and the moneyer's name is not visible even if it survives. The striking itself appears to be reasonably clear and complete although it is difficult to c…

A collection of 657 probable round shot all found in the same hole. The balls are of two main sizes, the larger making up the majority of the group. The smaller balls are possibly for a pistol. One ball more closely resembles a shot plug. The rough diameter for the larger balls is approximately 17mm, and many have mould lines. There is a variation across the group in the level of oxidation on the surface of the balls, but this may be due to varying soil conditions throughout the hole. The average weight for the sample taken was 33.97g, with individual weights in the sample from 26.…
