One of the eyes is just visible but not the other, due to pitting all over most of the surface of the find. The mouth is slightly open. The neck and back are long. There is the suggestion of the band under the chest, between the front legs. There is a band un…

The figure is seated upright with arms alongside the body and bent at the elbows, the figure’s right arm is now further from the body than the left. At first sight the figure appears naked; however, the genitalia and rump have escaped portrayal if this is the case, and there is the suspicion of short tunic sleeves in the area of the upper arms. The eye of faith might also discern the neckline of a tunic below the face. The short legs are lightly…

An unusual copper alloy brooch which has been modified with the addition of a silver collar. The shape of the original head of the brooch is obscured by the silver collar but is probably square with a rounded knop on top. From a raised, horizontal style line under this the main body of the brooch extends, widening in a narrow fan shape. There is a suggestion of fine decoration on the fan, perhaps a gilded pattern or even cells which may have contained enamelling. Sally Worrell comments that the decoration also shows signs of a foliate motif, as seen on Mackreth 2011, trumpet deriv…

A hammered silver penny of Edward IV of ‘anonymous issue’. Obverse: Crown within tressure of arches. Reverse: Long cross with three pellets in each quadrant. Legend reads: ‘CIVI/TAS / DVB/LIN’. The coin appears to be an Irish penny of Edward IV, known as the anonymous issue, because of the lack of name on the obverse. It seems to be a rare coin in England and Wales and is therfore marked as noteworthy.
