A cast copper alloy sword pommel of Late Early-Medieval or Medieval date, likely 11th or 12th century. The pommel is oval in plan and plano-convex in profile. The apex is missing, as is the upper part of one of the large side faces. This face bears an openwork design comprising at least two sub-oval apertures. The damage suffered by the apex makes it difficult to determine the original openwork design; however, it is possible that it picks out a crouching beast or similar motif. Feint incised or moulded lines also appear to suggest a beast though the surface is very worn.
