Silver
Coin. Penny. Alaistair Wardle identifies this as 'a York heavy coinage penny of Henry IV (1399-1413). He kindly notes 'there are only 2 dies for York heavy pennies - this is the one with obverse legend ending in FRANC'.
Obverse description: Facing bust with shoulders, crown with tall central fleur.
Reverse description: Long cross with central quatrefoil with pellet in centre, three closely-spaced pellets in each quadrant.
Spink 2004 (page 174) tends to confirm identification, though this coin is very worn - all legends lost - and perhaps clipped.
