A fragment of a silver sovereign penny of Henry VII (AD 1485 - 1509) dating from AD 1485 - 1500, minted at York under Archbishop Rotherham. The coin is worn and abraded with approximately one third of the coin surviving. Th obverse is double struck. North number 1728 or 1729 on page 103.
Obverse. King enthroned holding orb and sceptre
Reverse. Royal shield over long cross which divides the legend. Key below.
Dimensions: Length 14.8mm and width 10.6mm, thickness is 0.6mm and weight is 0.54g.

An late Medieval to early Post-medieval clipped and modifed silver penny of Henry VII (AD 1485 - 1509). Mint of York. North (1994) Vol 2, number 1721. The coin is pierced with a sub-circular hole, punched from the reverse in the first quarter of the reverse, near the edge. The obverse is extremely worn, and is now illegible. Diameter 14.2mm; thickness 0.2mm and weight 0.48g.
It is not clear whether the wear to the obverse was created with intent. The perforation would not allow the cross to hang upright. There is thus insufficient evidence to argue that the coin was removed from …
