An Early Medieval silver penny of Edgar (959-75), pre-reform phase, circumscription cross type with mint (North 749) dating to c. AD 959-72/3, moneyer: Leofweald/Leofwold, mint: Wilton. Ref: North 1994: p.148; cf. Naismith 2017 no. 1727. The coin is damaged with a fragment missing from the outer circle. The flan has cracks running out from this break.  Measurements: diameter:21.41 mm and weight: 1.49g. A short section of the flan is missing to the inner circle.

The coin is incomplete with the outer edge chipped removing parts of the beaded outer circle. The flan also has a small crack running from the edge through the outer circle inscription (around the D of EADGAR).

This is the Third Reform potrait type of Edgar the Peaceful to be recorded onto the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (see also YORYM-56EBD1 and DENO-46CA21) and the first for this moneyer. The coin has been bent into an S shape and the obverse is double struck. Diameter: 21.04mm, Thickness: 0.62mm, Weight: 1.4g.
