An Early Medieval silver penny of Cnut (AD1016-1035), dating AD1024-1030. North no. 787. The coin is fragmentary but almost 100% remains so it is possible to identify. The coins is of the pointed helmet variety, with a bust facing left wearing a pointed hat and sceptre in front. The inscription reads CNVT / [R]EX ANL. The obverse depicts a voided long cross with a pellet in the centre, in each quarter a broken annulet with a pellet within. The inscription reads PYNSTAN ON LVND, indicating the moneyer as Wynstan from the London mint.
Dimensions: diameter: 18.17 mm; weight: 0.92g.

Obverse description: Crowned bust right. Obverse inscription: Illegible/worn. Reverse description: Short cross. Reverse inscription: LEOFPOLD ON LV.
The reverse of the coin has nine 'peck marks' across it, where the surface of the coin has been lifted up by cutting with a knife- this was undertaken to check that the coin was produced from good silver and was not a plated copy or of poor quality.
