A silver fragment of a Saxon cut halfpenny, one edge of which has been cut, the other edge has been fractured. The coin may be of Aethelred II (AD 978-1016), a variety of the last small cross type (AD 1009-1017) with a pellet on the reverse (see North 1994:160). North Type 778 notes that the bust reaches the edge of the coin, as it does on this example, while Type 780/1 (also London mint) notes that pellets can be found on the reverse of these coins (ibid.).
