A silver early medieval coin; a penny of Aethelred II (978 – 1016), First Hand type (979 – 985). The coin is damaged and parts are missing, and what survives is in two pieces. About half of the edge is missing, making the mint and moneyer impossible to identify. The coin is 18.8mm long, 15.7mm wide and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.63g. For reference see North number 766, (Figure 1).

Description of find Because the three coins are exactly aligned, all that is visible is one side of each of the two outer coins, with nothing visible of the middle coin apart from the edge.
