The coin is of Fleur-De-Lis type dating from about 1038 - 1040. The mint and moneyer are unknown. See North numbers 803 - 806; BMC v, vi. The penny has been folded completely in half so that only the obverse is visible. This has made any further classification impossible.
The coin is surprisingly bright, light in weight and the edge of the flan is rather thick and square for a hammered coin. This raises the suspicion that the coin could be a modern imitation.</description><fromdate>1038</fromdate><todate>2000</todate><workflow>4</workflow><created>2013-03-07T15:29:36Z</created><updated>2013-03-14T15:37:56Z</updated><weight>0.7</weight><thickness>2</thickness><width>9.5</width><length>17.7</length><quantity>1</quantity><county>LINCOLNSHIRE</county><district>WEST LINDSEY</district><parish>OWERSBY</parish><fourFigure>TF0596</fourFigure><fourFigureLat>53.450309</fourFigureLat><fourFigureLon>-0.42037</fourFigureLon><obverseDescription>Bust left diademed and in armour; in front, a shield and sceptre</obverseDescription><obverseLegend>H(AR)O(LD RECX)</obverseLegend><reverseDescription>not visible</reverseDescription><reverseLegend>not visible</reverseLegend><denominationName>Penny</denominationName><rulerName>Harold Harefoot</rulerName><imagedir>images/lucyc/</imagedir><creator>Lucy Creighton</creator><materialTerm>Silver</materialTerm><filename>Don_989_harold_I_coin.jpg</filename><thumbnail>419693</thumbnail><categoryTerm>Coin of the kings of All England 924/5-1066</categoryTerm><typeTerm>Harold I, Fleur-de-lis (no further details, N 803-7)</typeTerm><regionName>EAST MIDLANDS</regionName></result><result><id>537801</id><old_findID>HAMP-AC4F78</old_findID><objecttype>COIN</objecttype><broadperiod>EARLY MEDIEVAL</broadperiod><description>A fragment of Early-Medieval penny of Harold I (1035-40), 'Jewel cross' type.
