L - B (= date: 285/6) Reference: BMC Greek, Alexandria, p. 2493var Curtis The Tetradrachms of Roman Egypt p. 164, no. 1976 Milne, Catalogue of Alexandridan Coins, p. 114, no. 4774 The outer edge is unevenly worn. This object was found on the coast at South Shields in the 1890s, where Eastern coins are known from a hoard, possible shipwreck, and as individual finds.

Tetradrachm of Alexandria, struck during the second year of the reign of Diocletian, Roma left, AD 285/6. c.f.Copenhagen 1020. Coin is in good condition with little wear or corrosion. Measures 18.5mm diameter by 3.6mm thick. Weight = 6.84g. SNG Copenhagen 975.

Tetradrachm of Alexandria. The size and style of the bust suggests that it may be Diocletian. Enharncing the attached images reveals a possible H regnal year (8 = AD 291-292), but this is not clear (Finds Adviser, 01/09/2005).
