A complete but worn silver Medieval Irish penny from the reign of Edward I (AD 1272-1307). The coin has a solid long cross on the reverse, and so would date from AD 1279 - 1302. The coin is bent, with around 1/3 being bent over, going from 7 o’clock to 12 o’clock. Obverse description: Crowned bust facing forward in a triangle. Obverse inscription: [ED]W[R] [A]NGL [DNS] [H]Y[B]. Reverse description: Long cross with pellets in each quadrant. Reverse inscription: CI[VI]/TAS/DUBL/INIE. Diameter: 19.67mm. Thickness: 0.90mm. Die axis: 8.

Measurements: diameter: 15.18mm; thickness: 0.6mm and weight: 0.56g. The flan has a trapezoidal section missing adjacent to the reverse triangle and the opposing half is also missing with the break running along the triangle edge.

This coin dates from AD 1251, when dies were sent from London to Dublin, through to AD 1254 when the mint was closed. The obverse shows a forward facing crowned bust, cinquefoil to the right of the bust, with sceptre in triangular field. The obverse legend reads [HEN]RI./CVS R/E[X III].
