A damaged silver hammered coin; a long cross penny of Edward II (1307-1327), Class 6 or 7, Withers Type 8 or 9 dating from about AD 1312-1318. The coin has odd differential patination on the obverse, and this face is very worn. It is possible that the coin was once bent. On the reverse, recent scrape marks obscure most of the legend, perhaps caused by a journey through an agricultural machine. The surviving part of the legend is ":VI[L L]AB ERE [WYC']" rendered retrograde. This identifies the coin as a product of the Berwick mint. See North number 1082 on page 39 and Withers and Withe…
