Silver cut half penny that is a Welsh contemporary imitation of an English coin, minted during the reign of Llywelyn ab Iorwerth (1195-1211) circa in 1195-1205 (class 3c5) Brand 3330.  Minted by Simond at Rhuddlan Obverse: crowned bust facing forward (only the right side remains) RICVSR Reverse: long cross voided with three pellets in each angle [O]ND ON R This type of coins are thought to be the earliest examples of sterling imitations produced.

A silver short cross penny of King John (1199-1216AD) dating from the period 1205-1210AD. The moneyer is Simon at the mint of Rhuddlan.  Group II, Class iii (similar to English Class 5). Obverse has the crowned bust facing, holding a sceptre and the legend hENRICVS REX. The reverse has a voided short cross, with four pellets in each quarter, and the legend SIMON ON RVLA.  The initial mark is a cross pommée.  See North, Vol. 1, p221, class 973/1.
