A possible stone Paleolithic handaxe, dating to c. 500,000 - 180,000 BC. The handaxe is possibly made from a quartzite. The axe is drop shaped and pointed oval in section. A Lower Palaeolithic flint handaxe of chordate form (Wymer Type J), struck from a pale brown flint which is heavily patinated with a thick white patina from prolonged secondary deposition in calcareous sediments. The axe measures 92.6mm long by 74.6mm wide and 38.4mm thick and is bifacially worked with invasive soft hammer flaking covering both faces. The cutting edges are heavily abraded and the pointed tip has broken off.

A Middle Palaeolithic Coygan ('Bout Coupe') handaxe. Cream/beige flint or chert. Sub-rectangular with a straight base, and narrows to a rounded tip (now incomplete). All edges have shattered damage. One face has a flat profile formed by three horizontal removal scars, the left-most with a further removal flake at 45 degrees to the edge. A Lower Palaeolithic sub-cordate handaxe. Bifacially worked with areas of cortex remaining on both surfaces. The 'ventral' face has invasive removal scars to the right and left of the pointed apex, and natural fracture lines at the butt. The 'dorsal' has invasive stepped removals along both sides, and a large natural fracture with loss of surface area at the butt, corresponding to the fracture line on the other face. Water worn. Quartzite handaxe in slightly rolled condition, hard hammer struck from a semi-flat water worn cobble, in an alternate flake pattern, one flake struck from one face and then turned over and the previous flake scar used as a platform for the next, forming a zig-zag cutting edge.
