Blue opaque glass diamond-faceted bead of uncertain date.
It is 8mm long and 5mm in diameter. It is rectangular with facetted corners at each end. There is a central cylindrical hole running the length of the bead.
It is possibly Roman or Early Medieval in date but it is impossible to be certain when found as a stray find. Guido’s book on Anglo-Saxon beads (1999, 50-51) says they could be Roman but some are also found in 6th century (and later) graves.

A roughly circular lead spindle whorl from a stratified Roman site. The object was originally identified as a loom weight but its size and the shape and size of the central perforation suggests a heavy spindle whorl rather than a loom weight.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A conical lead weight from a stratified Roman site. The weight has a hole from the top going through to the base that varies in width and is off-centre. Originally this object was identified as a plumb-bob but the perforation is not central and the object would have swing unevenly, so it is suggested that this is not a plumb-bob but a weight possibly used in the weighing of goods.

A sub-oval lead plug/mend for the repair of a damaged vessel. The larger element is flat; the smaller one above the groove is slightly convex. The larger element extends beyond the groove in one direction. In the absence of any diagnostic pottery surviving within the groove the mend is difficult to date. However, given the large number of Roman finds made in the vicinity such a date is suggested.

Two small fragments of an early Post-Medieval glass vessel, probably dating to the 16th or 17th century. A rim shard and body shard. The glass appears to be fairly colourless, but with an oxidised outer surface. The outer surface is decorated with thin, raised circumferential bands, arranged close to one another. A pedestal beaker with similar decoration may be seen in Wilmott's (2002, p.49) 'Early Post-Medieval Vessel Glass in England', fig.36, no.4.9. However, the vessle is green-tinted and its walls curve inwards, unlike this one which, though the form is difficult to determine from…

A post Medieval pottery body sherd from a Raeren panel jug (c.1575-1610). The body sherd includes part of the decorative panel which depicts the peasant’s dance. In the scen the man is to the left of the woman with his left arm outstretched. The woman also has her left arm outstretched. Above the two figures is a double arch. The finder has suggested that Jan Emens may be the pottery but Lyn Blackmore said that without the motto below the panel it is difficult to ascribe the mould to a specific potter and also a mould could be used by more than one potter.
