Complete end scraper of conventional form; made from a secondary, hard hammer struck flake of glossy black flint with some inclusions, steeply retouched at the distal end to form the semi-circular scraping edge, small patch of sandy coloured thin cortex extant to one lateral side, showing the outside curve of the flint nodule this was struck from. A very useful tool in the initial preparation of fresh hides for tanning, effective in removing the subcutaneous fat from just below the surface of the skin. Neolithic, 4,000 to 2,350 BC.

A complete Neolithic endscraper dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The end scraper is made from a tertiary flake of flint that is a matte light brown sometimes semi-glossy medium brown semi-translucent flint. It is broadly recyangular in plan and trapezoidal in cross section the ventral surface being wider than the dorsal surface. It has at least three earlier flake removal scars on the dorsal surface struck in the same direction as the scraper. Its distal end has medium length, semi-abrupt, parallel retouch across its length. No retouch exists on the ventral surface altho…

A possible chert scraper of Mesolithic to Bronze Age, 9000 BC - 1000 BC. The possible tool is formed on a tertiary flake of black chert with a dorsal ridge. It has possible retouch on all edges which is abrupt, sub-parallel and short. The removals are not particularly uniform, casting some doubt about their intentionality. Length: 50.57mm Width: 36.33mm Thickness: 11.1mm Weight: 26.96g The thickness of the flake and abruptness of the retouch rules out use as an arrowhead, but it would be a functional scraper. The findspot may ha…

A scraper struck from a dark brown flint, 49mm in length, probably of Neolithic date. The scraper is semi-circular and there is semi-abrupt parallel retouch, most noticeably on one side. The dorsal surface and proximal end retain patches of cortex with no evidence for a prepared striking platform. The surface demonstrates water polish.

A flint end scraper of likely Mesolithic date, dating to c.9000-3450 BC. Description: The flint is rectangular in plan and triangular in one cross section. and ovoid in the other. This is due to the ridge running along the body of the scraper, with either side sloping away from it to obverse edges with  short, stepped and low-angle retouch. The edges are still sharp to the touch. The top and bottom faces are flat with some very light retouch at the top. Concoidal rippling and negative flake scars are visible on the body. The reverse of the flint is f…

A crudely worked possible side or hollow scraper made from a nodule fragment of dark brown flint, 61.9mm in length. The dorsal surface retains around 50% of its cortex. There is a patch of short abrupt scaled retouch along one slightly side, suggesting a use as a scraper. The proximal end appears to have battering damage.

A crudely worked notched or hollow scraper made from a nodule fragment of dark brown flint, 59.9mm in length. The dorsal surface retains around 70% of its cortex. There are patches of short abrupt retouch around the sides, most noticeably on the distal end and along a concave edge on one side suggesting a use as a multi-functional scraper. The distal end appears to have some damage.

A complete flint Scraper of Neolithic date (3450-2100 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in plan and bi-convex in section. The proximal end retains some cortex while the distal edge is curved. All edges with the exception of the proximal end have fine semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is slightly convex with six negative scars and corresponding arises. The lithic retains some cortex and is therefore a secondary flake. The flint is dark/light grey in colour, the cortex is light brown in colour. Length: 42.64mm, Width: 42.21mm, Thickness: 13.55mm, Weight: 29.2g

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The object is formed from a tertiary flake which is sub-ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface is flat and smooth. Short, stepped, semi-abrupt retouch is present along the curved edge and into each side of the dorsal surface. The flint is a light white colour with grey inclusions. The implement is 28.4mm long, 19.6mm wide, 10.8mm thick and weighs 5.7g. Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other artefact types.…
