A small rectangular gun flint probably from a small handgun / firearm / pocket pistol of post medieval - modern date (1700-1850 AD). The flint is sub-square in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section. The flint is a light mottled grey colour. The dorsal face has been knapped / worked on all four sides; this work consists of creating sloping edges to give it a trapezoidal side view. A modern (c. AD 1800-2010) flint scraper made on an ancient flake of uncertain prehistoric date. The scraper is broadly circular in plan with part of the platform and the buld retained. There is some re-cortication, through which the modern retouching is cut. The modern retouching is at the proximal tip and around the distal edge. It is possible that a farm worker (for example) may have created and used this scraper in Victorian (or even more modern) times. A small fragment from the base of a wine or medicine bottle of blue-green glass [blue under reflected light but green in transmitted light], is here presented to illustrate the misleading result of multiple abrasions, which led the finder to initially consider this to be a prehistoric flint tool. A lithic implement; a flint annular ring which probably dates from the 19th or early 20th century. It is made of opaque tan flint and has scalar retouch. It weighs about 2g. This object has been identified by Hazel Martingel and is probably a rare survivor of the work of flint knappers during the early part of the 20th century. They were originally called 'fakes' but later 'replicas'. Bill Basham was one such flint knapper who made a flint necklace of rings very like this one. He also made a Flint alphabet! An incomplete and misshapen gold dental plate of Modern date (c. 1825-c. 1950). Prior to being misshapen the plate would have been roughly semi-circular in plan. It has a straight side which would have been at the back of the mouth and a curved side that was at the forward position. The plate is made from swaged gold - a sheet of gold was placed over a model and shaped in palate form using a horn mallet. Post-Medieval gunflint used in a flint lock rifle dating from the 16th to 18th century. It measures 26.43mm in length, 26.84mm in width, 8.54mm in thickness and weighs 7.8g. Undiagnostic struck flint waste flake. The fissures are very fresh in appearance and the suggestion was made that this is a modern piece. The flint is mid-grey to mottled blue-white in colour with 45% cortex remaining. It measures 52.93mm by 56.73mm, is 10.06mm thick and weighs 32.26g.
