Possible weight, of sub-square plan with radiused corners, it appears that the straight sides have been hammered as the edges expand, an off-centre, sub rectangular perforation has been punched through the weight, four deeply punched flower/sun motifs decorate one face, each stamp has a central, circular element with eleven radiating “petals” or “rays”. Possibly an unofficial ¼ oz weight, maybe the stamps are an attempt to legitimise/make official its use, denote a certain unit(s) of weight, or are simply decorative. Medieval to Post Medieval, 1066-1900 AD.

A complete lead-alloy probable net weight or loom weight of Medieval to Post Medieval date (AD 1200-1800). It is cylindrical in plan and circular in section. There is a central, sub-circular perforation through the object, 4.2mm in diameter. The upper and lower surfaces are flat. The object is undecorated. Lead weights are difficult to date securely or assign to specific tasks without archaeological context, as they change very little and thus a wide date range is suggested. The form of these weights has been suggested as reflecting those utilised for fishing or as net sinkers, t…

An copper alloy object – possibly a weight, or coin- of probable Roman date. The weight is sub-oval in plan, rectangular in cross section with a very worn design on one surface which includes two parallel lines. The opposite side is too worn to discern a design. A complete lead weight of uncertain, but likely post medieval date. The object is cylindrical being circular in plan and rectangular in cross section shaped and crudely made. Both sides are undecorated, although there is a possible abstract stamp which may be post depositional damage, or may be intentional. The weight is an off white colour. As the form of these weights is in use for a long period of time, a specific date is difficult to establish, but they are more likely to be of post medieval date given their plainness. Measurements: 32.9mm diameter, 6.2mm thickness…
