A complete flint lower Paleolithic handaxe likely to date to around 600,000 BC. Sub-cordate shape (Wymer (1999) Type E/D) with retouch mainly confined to the edges of both faces. There is a large patch of pebble cortex remaining in the centre of one face. The edges and surfaces are heavily abraded.
Found along the north Suffolk coast on the edge of the Pakefield to Kessingland outcrop of forest bed material (see Robins et al. 2008).

A Flint possible handaxe or ovate dating to the late Neolithic period (4000-2400 BC). The flint is a light orange brown colour, with patches of black showing through. It has a polished patination which is possibly a ‘desert gloss’, common on flints polished by blown sand.
The flint is bifacially worked, with invasive, stepped, abrupt retouch, probably with a soft hammer. It is cordate in shape, and pointed oval in cross section. The flint measures 59.5mm in length, 44.7mm in width, 15.6mm in thickness and weighs 42.04g.

A large struck tertiary flake of light grey flint, 77.7mm in length. The proximal end has a prominent bulbar scar and striking platform. The distal end has heavy battering damage, apparently from use as there is no similar damage elsewhere on the flake edges. There is no evident retouch.

An incomplete knapped flint lithic implement of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date, c. 4000-1500 BC. It is sub-oval in plan, being manufactured on a tertiary flake of brownish black flint. One face is plain and retains the remains of its bulb of percussion/erallieur scar, while the opposing face has been heavily worked with directly applied invasive retouch (long removals) possibly occuring via soft hammer. Preserved in relatively fresh condition with apparently little edge damage, it measures 43.31mm in length (down its percussion axis), 39.51mm wide at its widest point, and 16.51…

A struck flint lithic implement of uncertain type. The object is a roughly triangular natural flake with hinge fracture at the broadest end, the flint being a mottled grey/brown in colour. At the pointed end one face has several irregular and low angled flake scars. Both edges have crude short, scaled and abrupt retouch resulting in relatively blunt edges. The entire object measures 76.34mm in length, 49.61mm in width, 9.33mm in thickness, and 35.44g in weight.
The precise function of this object remains uncertain. The retouch is crude, but seemingly deliberate, although precisely …

An incomplete struck flint implement, possibly a blade. It has parallel flake scars on the dorsal face, limited crude edge retouch and heavy staining leaving the surfaces dark brown in colour. Any striking platform or bulb of percussion are missing due to old breaks. It measures 41.83mm in length, 20.52mm in width, 12.37mm in thickness and 7.52g in weight. This is a struck flint implement, possibly a blade, of prehistoric date. Its form suggests a possible Mesolithic to Neolithic date, although a later range cannot be ruled out entirely.

A Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic flint blade.
The blade is sub-rectangular in plan, the sides converging at what is probably the proximal end, which is slightly damaged. The piece is of triangular section along much of its length, with an angled flake removal at the distal end having created a wedge-shaped base. The surface of the flint is well patinated: the original colour is only visible at the damaged proximal end and also along a short length of the adjacent side, where the edge appears to have been retouched through the patination.

A flint waste flake of probable Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date.
The flint is a secondary flake, retaining part of the original cortex at the proximal end, where there is a bulb-of-percussion. The flake is roughly semicircular in plan and has a conchoidal fracture. At one point along the edge, there are four parallel flake removal scars, which are probably indicative of retouch. The translucent flint is repatinated in places, particularly on the ventral face.
Dimensions: length: 32.6mm; width: 28.1mm; thickness: 7.5mm. Weight: 7.18g.
