Modern copper alloy button. It is 16.9mm in diameter, weighs 1.8g, and is shallowly concave, with 4 centrally located 2.4mm diameter attachment holes. It has impressed lettering with ORTON & SON ATHERSTONE around the edge, and retains a black surface coating in patches. Thomas Orton is listed in directories as being in business as a tailor, draper & outfitter in Atherstone in 1851 and 1871, and Charles Orton (presumably Thomas's son) is listed in the 1896 directory as still in business in Long St., but is not in the 1912 one. A badge of the Leicestershire Regiment. The circular badge is made of pressed copper alloy sheet and is complete but badly bent, presumably by post-depositional agricultural activity.
