Copper alloy and glass, gilded, detached seal matrix setting. An oval intaglio of opaque white material of thickness 6.1mm - as exposed at its edge - which is glazed front and back with a bright blood red coating of glass. One side bears an incised curvilinear motif, probably a personal monogram. The other bears the incised design of a robed stooping figure advancing right, supported on an anchor; the latter feature identifies this as a personification of Death, or Thanatos, and may suggest this to be a memorial piece. Silver and glass
Setting, possibly from a finger ring bezel. A plano-convex white (i.e. clear) glass stone of diameter 10mm, facetted on its convex face, now detached from a silver sheet setting bearing a stamped or impressed circumferential cabled motif. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1920.
Diameter (assembled): 13.95mm, Thickness (setting): 0.4mm, Weight: 0.63gms.

Cut faceted glass stone, circular in plan and diamond-shaped in profile, within a circular silver setting that is made from a thin band of pinched plate with a machined edge, now broken. The setting might have been part of a composite piece of jewellery or an ornate buckle, but looking at ESS-CAABF3, it compares well to this button, which has been identified by Judy Rudoe as a silver sleeve button formed of a hemisphere with a colourless faceted stone and its loop missing.
