Post Medieval silver sixpence of William and Mary - George IV, 1693-1821 AD. The coin has been worn completely smooth (part of one shield is visible on the reverse only) and bent in two places - marks suggest it was bent with a clamp. It has been counterstamped with a raised ING within a recessed field.
Smoothed and bent coins of this period are often referred to as 'love tokens' and some were stamped with the initials of the sender or recipient. Smoothed and stamped coins were also produced by traders for use as tokens.
