A silver sovereign penny of Henry VIII (1509 - 1547), second coinage (1526 - 1544) minted at Durham under Bishop Thomas Wolsey. See North (1991) number 1811, p.112. The coin is split slightly at the edge at 8o'clock.
Obverse: Portrait of King facing, enthroned holding orb and sceptre. Inscription surrounding: H D G ROSA SIE SPIA
Reverse: Long cross fourchée over royal shield. Initials T W either side of shield for Bishop Thomas Wolsey.
