A copper-alloy Medieval to Post Medieval buckle of c. AD 1400 - 1600 date. The buckle is sub rectangular in shape and double looped. both loops are sub rectangular in shape. The pin and strap bar are still present. The frame measures 17.6mm long, 15.7mm wide, 3mm thick, and weighs 1.81g. similar buckles can be seen in Whitehead, pages 75-76.

A copper alloy double loop Medieval to Post Medieval shoe buckle of c. AD1400-1600 date, incomplete insofar as the pin is missing. the buckle has two loops, both roughly oval in shape. the frame is bevelled on both the outer and inner edges on the upper side. The frame is 21.3mm long, 15mm wide 1.8mm thick and weighs 1.79g. A similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead, ref. 334.

A copper alloy asymmetrical double loop Post Medieval buckle of c. AD 1660-1720 date. One loop is D - shaped the other is rectangular. There is a separate strap bar, although this is almost hidden by iron corrosion. The pin has a wide base, which narrows towards the D-shaped loop, and ends in a trilobed design. The frame is 25.3mm long, 20.8mm wide, 3.3mm thick and weighs 6.5g. A similar pin can be seen in Whitehead, ref.598.

Fragment of a copper alloy Post Medieval buckle of 1690 - 1720 date. the buckle is decorated on the upper side with a scrollwork pattern. one of the shorter sides of the rectangle, 9.7mm of the right longer side and 21.3mm of the left longer side remain. the fragment is 22.6mm wide, 4mm thick and weighs 2.68g. a buckle of similar shape can be found in whitehead, page 102, ref. 650.

A copper alloy Post Medieval Artois style buckle of c. AD 1720-1790 date, incomplete insofar as the spindle and the pin are missing. the buckle is a sub rectangular shape, with evenly spaced rectangular openwork slots all around the frame. on the outer side of each long side of the frame there are two drilled holes for the missing spindle. The buckle is 59.9mm long, 38mm wide, 4.4mm thick and weighs 10.06g. a similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead, page 107, ref. 685.

A white metal coated copper-alloy post medieval shoe buckle c. AD 1690 - 1720 date. Incomplete insofar as the pin and tongue are missing. There are two drilled holes for a separate pin/bar the frame is a dark grey colour with some wave- like decoration all over the upper side. The frame measures 26.8mm long, 23.8mm wide, 3mm thick and weighs 3.54g.

A complete copper alloy Post Medieval shoe buckle of c. AD1690 - 1720 date. the frame is of the 'cooking pot' shape with a single internal spike on the centre of the longest flat side. The pin is complete. The buckle is 23.6mm long, 29.6mm wide, 3.5mm thick and weighs 5.23g. An illustration similar to this buckle can be seen in Whitehead, page 96, example V.

One end is rounded and the other rectangular with a trefoil shapedouter edge. Outer edge of rectangular loop has a single lateral groove. Pin notch on rounded loop and narrowed strap bar. The buckle measures 24.7mm long, 16.9mm wide, 2.1mm thick and weighs 2.15g.

Description: The buckle/fastener remains as a square bucklesque frame with narrowed and offset 'strap' bars..
