A copper-alloy knife end-cap from a scale-tang knife, dating from the early post-Medieval period. The object has a sub-cuboidal central block, with a deeply concave upper side and a vertical slot in the base, in which is contained a remnant of the iron tang. County: Northamptonshire

An incomplete copper-alloy bow brooch, dating from the 1st or 2nd century AD. The upper bow and head are missing, the sharpness and lack of patination on the break indicating that this damage probably occurred relatively recently. The remaining bow is of triangular cross section, its straight sides being parallel along much of its length, but converging to a point at the foot. Where the original surface remains, the central ridge can be seen to have been decorated by means of a series of horizontal grooves. The catchplate is located on the underside; it is unperforated and has lost…

A lead-alloy bird, probably made during the post-Medieval period and representing either a trinket box or a toy. The object has been made in two pieces. The lower piece resembles the bowl of a spoon, being hollow, pear-shaped and extending to a remnant of the stem-like neck of the bird. A copper-alloy or iron pin projects downwards from the centre of each of the two remaining portions of the legs. A deep fold between these legs is probably the result of post-depositional damage. The breast is plain and the only feature of this lower half, other than the legs, is a pair of damaged l…

An Early Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy saucer brooch. The upper surface of the circular plate bears a geometric pattern comprising five relief-moulded 'running spirals' around a central pellet-in-ring. A plain line border (raised) extends around this design, separating it from the upward-angling, slightly damaged, rim. The hinge and catchplate each comprise a single right-angled lug which has been separately cast and then added to the reverse of the brooch. The perforated hinge (damaged) is located to the right of an irregular perforation in the plate, the latter of which is directly oppos…
