The C-shaped wings appear to have a moulded pattern of vertical ribs running along the upper long edge. Each wing is decorated with two circular knops with verticle ribs attached via copper-alloy rivets that are clearly visibile on the rear of the wings. A heavily corroded fragment of a Roman copper-alloy Wroxeter type, bow brooch dating to c.AD 75-175.
Comprising of just the sub-oval head-plate and the top of the bow. The head-plate has possible linear decoration on the face, a break at the top and on the reverse a raised transverse ridge across the base. A complete Post Medieval hooked tag (dress fastener) dating to circa AD 1550-150. It consists of a sub-oval plate carrying moulded floriate decoration. At the apex is a rectangular suspension loop. Emerging from the lower edge is a reverted hook. The piece is plano-convex in section.
It is consistent with Read's Class E, Type 3 group with a very similar example illustrated in 2008: pg 103, no 400.
