The terminals are narrowed with flattened ends curling back on themselves when the object is viewed, laid flat, from above. It measures 25.67mm in diameter and weighs 2.90g. Anna Booth comments that this is unlikely to be a Late Iron Age penannular brooch, "If it was it would be a Type C, but can't see how that would work as the terminals look complete" (pers. comm. November 2014). The patination of the metal is rem…

Lead weight. Rectangular weight, possibly cut from cast sheet, an operation which may have conferred a slightly plano-convex appearance. The convex side bears an incised X or saltire whose lines run from corner to corner. Patinated overall. Together with the mass, the incised character might suggest this to represent ten scripula (each of 1.14gms) according to the Roman system of weights and measures. In Roman usage, 3 scripula would equal one drachma, so this might alternatively derive from the Anglo-Saxon adoption of the Roman system. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Middle Saxon, …

Fragment of an unidentified object. The item comprises a rectangular shank, broken at one end, and which splits into two narrower and thinner arms at the other end. The broken end is rectangular in section, and the break is worn and patinated. The shank thins out at the split-end. One arm is entirely missing, and only a small portion of the other survives.
