A complete unusual late early-medieval barrel-shaped weight. Measuring 23.3mm diameter and 18.5mm in height with a weight of 40.29g. This weight is made of iron with a copper-alloy casing, patches of corroded iron can now be seen through this casing. The flat ends of the weight appear to have stamped decoration on them consisting of two concentric circles of small circular motifs. There is a trace of someting else within these boarders but what it was is no longer visible due to wear and corroded iron. A very similar weight is illustrated in Biggs (1993, 14). He states tha…

A complete lead spindle whorl. Conical in shape with a central circular peforation. Measuring 16.8mm in height and 27.1mm in base diameter. The central perforation is circular and measures c12.6mm in diameter. Lead spindle whorls are very difficult to date accurately as their form changes little from the Roman period onwards. This example could therefore be Roman or later in date.

A lead weight, roughly circular in shape, with a small hole through the middle. The weight is flat on both sides and the edges are rounded. The hole in the centre measures about 2mm. On one of the flat surfaces, around the edge of the hole there is a slight lip. The weight is undecorated. The surface of the weight is smooth. One surface of the weight is also scratched. The lead has gone a light brownish-grey colour. This weight is possibly medieval, but most probably post-medieval in date. Due to that fact that so few lead weights have been found in archaeological contexts, only a very…
