A clipped silver threepence of Queen Elizabeth, (AD 1558-1603), second coinage dating 1573. The obverse shows a crowned bust, facing left with a rose behind it. The initial mark is an ermine, above the crown. The inscription reads: ELIZABETH:D:G.ANG’FR.EIHI The reverse bears a long cross fourchée over square shield with date above (1573). The inscription reads [ermine] POSVIDEV’ADIVTOREM’MEV. This is similar to type 1998 in North (1991, p. 135).  Measurements: Diameter: 19.1mm Thickness: 0.7mm Weight: 1.26g Die axis: 4

Coin has been pierced at 4 o'clock on the obverse, through to the reverse. Diameter: 17.4 mm Thickness: 0.8 mm Weight: 1.1 g Pierced coins during the 17th Century are not removed from circulation and still function as coins. Therefore it falls outside of the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996 and is not considered to be potential Treasure.
