A very worn Medieval copper-alloy French jetton dating to the period c.AD 1400- 1478. 'Shield of France' type. Triple stranded straight cross fleuretty in four arched treasure reverse. Probably mint of Paris. Mitchiner (1988: 224-231) No. 665-711 The obverse depicts a Shield of France bearing three complete lis, within an inner circle with the inscription "AVE MARIA GRACIA" surrounding. The reverse depicts a triple stranded straight cross fleuretty within a quatrefoil, trefoil in each external angle of the foil.
