A pierced post-medieval copper-alloy Nuremberg jetton of the Schultes workshop, Hans Schultes I or II, dating from 1553 to 1603. ​'French shield' type. Obverse: Crowned shield of France, [LIB MIC]H ALS I[CH DIH]. Reverse: motto VERBVM/ DOMINI/ MANET/ IN AET/ ERNVM (the Word of the Lord remains forever) in a tablet. No direct equivalent is found in Mitchiner (1988) but the obverse correponds to his nos. 1380 (Schultes I) and 1399 (Schultes II); the reverse is in the style of no. 1398 (Schultes II) but with a different legend.

Obverse: The winged lion of St. Mark in Venice, holding a book of gospels. Crown initial mark. Reverse: A large orb within three lobed tressure. A pierced medieval jetton of the English 'pictorial obverse' type, depicting a shield with lions passant and dating to 1280-1343. The jetton has been pierced four times, three of which are arranged centrally and longitudinally. Two of these retain a flat grey rivet/ fixing. The empty piercing measures 1.0mm in diameter and the empty piercing 4mm away from it (and not in line with the others) measures 1.1mm in diameter. The piercings suggest reuse as a brooch. Reference: Mitchiner 1988, p.108, no.173b.
