Only one face of the styca is visible, and this bears a central cross motif with a single pellet in each quarter. The cross does not appear to be circumscribed. The inscription is visible but illegible, as the outer edges of the face have suffered the most from wear and corrosion.
The opposite side of the styca is corroded onto a fragment of copper-alloy (approx. 1mm thickness) that was either originally disc-shaped or has subsequently been worn into a shape that roughly matched the outline of the coin. Where the copper-alloy joins the coin is a very thin layer of white with a tinge of green. It is uncertain if this is the material that is adhering the coin and the copper-alloy, or if this is corrosion byproduct of the copper-alloy.</description><fromdate>750</fromdate><todate>950</todate><workflow>4</workflow><created>2013-02-20T15:07:35Z</created><updated>2013-02-21T08:42:54Z</updated><weight>1.6</weight><diameter>12.46</diameter><thickness>2.76</thickness><quantity>1</quantity><county>NORTHUMBERLAND</county><district>CASTLE MORPETH</district><parish>THIRSTON</parish><fourFigure>NZ1999</fourFigure><fourFigureLat>55.284766</fourFigureLat><fourFigureLon>-1.702411</fourFigureLon><denominationName>Styca</denominationName><rulerName>Anonymous (Northumbrian illegible)</rulerName><imagedir>images/rcollins/</imagedir><creator>Rob Collins</creator><materialTerm>Copper alloy</materialTerm><cultureName>Anglo-Saxon</cultureName><filename>NCL-4E6B72.JPG</filename><thumbnail>416750</thumbnail><categoryTerm>Styca of Northumbria and York</categoryTerm><typeTerm>Styca (unidentifiable)</typeTerm><regionName>NORTH EAST</regionName></result><result><id>530767</id><old_findID>SWYOR-A40536</old_findID><objecttype>COIN</objecttype><broadperiod>EARLY MEDIEVAL</broadperiod><description>An early medieval copper alloy coin; a Northumbrian styca, ruler and moneyer unknown, dating from AD 837 - 855/67, from Phase 2.
