An Early-Medieval gold pseudo-imperial solidus, probably struck by the Merovingian Franks in the Lower Rhineland in the name of Anastasius I (AD 491-518), dating to the period c.AD 491-518. Treasure ref. 2018 T928: an Early-Medieval gold coin pendant. The pendant is made from a 9th-century Anglo-Frisian copy of a Carolingian solidus of Louis the Pious (814-840). The coin has been pierced directly above the head.
Obverse: laureate and cuirassed bust right; legend illegible
Reverse: cross pattée within a wreath; legend illegible.

Obverse: D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P NC, Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding globe cruciger and shield.
Reverse: VICTORI-A AVGGG, Angel standing facing holding chrismon topped staff and globe cruciger, a star to the right.
Mintmark: - *//CONOC (C reversed)
Diameter: 21mm; Weight: 4.43g.
For the official prototype of Justinian from Constantinople cf. MIBE p.113, no. 7. This is probably a Merovingian pseudo-Imperial issue, cf. Belfort no. 5234passim.
