A fragment of a hammered silver denarius of Marcus Aurlius, dating AD 172-174. There is also a small fragment. The obverse of the coin is heavily worn and not visible. Reverse inscription: RELIG AVG The reverse of the coin depicts Mercury standing, wearing a petasus and a short cloak. The right hand is extended, and the head if towards the left. COS V P P S P Q R OPTIMO PRINC, DAC CAP (in exergue) reverse type depicting a Dacian seated left on a pile of arms. Mint of Rome. cf. RIC II, p. 251, no. 98. The coin has extensive corrosion and flaking to both faces, which might indicate this is possibly a contemporary plated copy.
