A Post Medieval copper-alloy Irish 'gun money' shilling of James II (AD 1685-1688), dated February 1689. Mint of Dublin. These coins were minted during the Williamite War in Ireland (AD 1689-1691) and were to be redeemed for silver coinage after the war. They were made from old cannons, bells and scrap metal.
