Copper alloy sword pommel. A cast sub-triangular object with flat sides, approaching a flattened ‘cocked hat’ form, and with zoomorphic beast heads modelled at its outer edges. Each beast head has a tapered pointed snout, angled and paired pits for eyes, a long rounded brow with small triangular ears at its sides, with long curved swept-back features behind the head, possibly horns. An off-centre rectangular aperture measuring 8mm by 3.5mm may have received the end of a tang. The flat sides bear either interlaced strap-work or a series of curls resembling guilloche, in either case…

A cast gilded silver sword pommel of early medieval date. The pommel is sub-triangular in form, comprising a prominent central arched element flanked by lower, sub-conical terminals in the form of three-dimensional stylised animal heads in profile. These heads have pear-shaped eyes with an extended trail from the narrow end, which curls upwards to form an open scroll towards the back of the head. Two eyes retain a dark cabochon inlay (one slightly broken), the other two are no empty leaving round sockets. The ears are comma-shaped and point backwards, the snout is stubbed and the broa…

A sheet copper alloy sword pommel, probably dating to the early-medieval period. The pommel is made from one sheet of copper alloy that has been folded from a flat rectangular base up and over into triangular profiled pommel with a rectangular cross section.
