An incomplete fragment from a cast copper alloy 'fob' seal of modern date probably later 18th or early 19th Century (1740-1850). The seal matrix is composite, being formed from a clear glass intaglio set into a machine pressed body. The metal body is broken and damaged, the upper part including the loop is lost. The lower part comprises an irregular octagonal (rectangular with the corners taken off) setting with scroll like patterns on the upper surface. A single hole is present in the middle. A silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-293) (Reece Period 14), RENOVAT ROMANO, She wolf right with suckling twins Romulus and Remus. Mintmark: -//RSR; commonly attributed to London, but to be studied further. RIC V, pt 2, p. 512, no. 571. BNJ 2013 Coin Register p. 285, no. 49. Silver denarii of Carausius are rare, but the Wolf and Twins type is one of the most common reverses. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.

Copper alloy thimble. Cast domed thimble of 'beehive' form, with an inscribed foot ring. Punched indentations appear around the sides and over most of the top, with an apical field left empty. These appear to have been punched in circumferential rows, and those on the upper curving surface are of diminishing size. A pair of adjacent splits appears in the side, and several indentations are either corroded or pierced through. Suggested date: Early Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.
Diameter: circa 21mm, Thickness: 0.8mm, Weight: 3.73gms.
