Object type: MUSKET BALL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete Post-Medieval cast lead musket ball, c.AD 1600-1800. The casting seam and the remains of a circular casting sprue can be seen. Its surface is very smooth suggesting it was manufactured in a quasi-industrial context. The musketball is almost intact, apart from two scratches on either sides of the casting seam, which may be the result of post-deposition deformation. The very good condition of its surface suggests the shot was found close to its point of manufacture and was never fired.

Incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy hooked strap fitting, probably a sword belt mount, c. AD 1600-1700. A late Medieval to Post Medieval handmade copper alloy lace tag, c.AD 1400-1800.
