Object type: BRICK
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Part of Post Medieval ceramic brick probably dating from the late 16th to 17th century. The brick is handmade by clay being pushed into a mould leaving characteristic lenses in the clay. Its size is similar to a standard brick size introduced in a charter of 1571, and it has no frog. These were first introduced in about 1690. However, it may not be a standard size so it could date from other parts of the Post Medieval period.

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete medieval copper-alloy annular buckle (dating from the 14th century). The frame consists of a ring of sub square section measuring 16.99mm diameter by 2.62mm thick. The wire pin is circular in section and has been looped round the frame and there is no pin rest. The artefact has therefore been recorded as a buckle rather than a brooch (see Egan and Pritchard 1991, 57). Many examples of annular buckles have been found in London in 14th-century contexts (ibid., 57-58; fig. 36). The buckle has a dark-brown patina.

A small circular cast copper alloy weight, dating from the early 19th century. The weight was part of a 'nest of weights' and has a small rim around the upper surface in which a small weight would have fitted. The weight itself would have sat in the heavier weight underneath. The upper surface is stamped with a crowned 'WR' standing for WILLIAM REX, for William IV (1830 - 1837). This style of mark was introduced after the Acts of 1795 and 1797 and was an alternative to the earlier London marks of a dagger and an ewer found on official weights (Biggs, Antique Weights, page 10).
