Post Medieval cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame. The frame has two oval loops with flat backs and inner sides and rounded, angled, outer sides. The strap bar is narrowed and worn even thinner in the middle. The upper and lower edges at either end of the strap bar have straight outer sides. The pin and buckle plate are missing. The frame is slightly bent in profile and 26.8mm long, 21.8mm wide and 1.9mm thick. It weighs 2.32 grams. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 54, No.305) which he dates to c.1500-1650 AD.

The buckle is 31.6mm long, 20.1mm wide, 1.9mm thick and weighs 2.7g. Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead, p.54 and are dated to circa 1500 - 1650.

Part of a cast copper-alloy buckle frame. The frame is broken and slightly twisted due to post-depositional damage. It is possible that it is a double oval frame but is more likely that it is an oval frame with decoration on the outside edge as it appears to narrow into an offset bar. The frame is decorated on the outside edge with two large knops with a collar between them and collars where they join the frame. Each knop has a v-shaped line engraved into it. The frame is d-shaped in section and has a flat back. It measures 22.11mm in length and 37.55mm in width and weighs 2.88g. Th…

A fragment of a post-Medieval cast copper alloy drilled buckle frame (c. 1720-c. 1790 AD). This portion of frame is misshapen. It has a flat moulded decorated upper face and the lower face is plain and convex. The decoration consists of an inner and outer border with similar decoration of contiguous rings and flower-like motifs. Above the spindle hole there is a rosette. Each break is old and the decorated face has traces of white metal. Length: c. 40.65mm; width: 8.26mm; thickness: 2.48mm. Weight: 9.58g.

Incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of Medieval date. The buckle has a single oval looped frame with a lipped pin rest and an integral plate. The buckle is chunky in design with the frame being sub-square in section. At the point where the frame meets the plate there is a slight knop to either side of the base of the frame. The integrally cast plate is incomplete but clearly consisted of an openwork design. The pin, which is secured in place by a notch in the openwork plate, is still in situ. The buckle, although incomplete, is in good condition with a dark green patina. The …

A Post Medieval copper alloy double looped buckle with moulded decoration. The frame is 'D'-shaped in cross-section with a flat back and bevelled sides, with oval loops expanded to points in the centre of each outer edge. The buckle is 45.85mm long by 28.02mm wide, 3.49mm thick and it weighs 8.88 grams. A parallel can be seen in Whitehead (2003); pg.66 number 407 which he dates to c.1550-1650 AD.

A copper-alloy double-loop trapezoidal buckle of post-Medieval date. The buckle is symmetrical, the two trapezoidal sides converging towards the centre, where there is an axis bar with protruding knops. The upper surfaces of the frame slope downwards and outwards, while the underside is flat. Traces of iron corrosion on the frame are probably from the otherwise missing pin. The buckle measures 23.6mm long, 17.9mm wide, 2.3mm thick and weighs 2.71g.

A complete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is a sub-rectangular shoe buckle with a drilled frame for separated spindle. The corners are curved and the pin and stud chape remain in tact. A large amount of iron corrosion around the spindle area suggests the spindle was composed of iron. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 27.1mm long, 19.4mm wide, 4mm thick and weighs 4.4g.
