Copper alloy brooch with Colchester derivative rear hook type spring attachment. Missing spring, pin; damaged wings, hook, foot and catchplate. The stub of the hook is visible at the top of the bow. Small wings project from the broad flat backed bow. The bow has a parallel sided upper half, with moulded ribs (broad central, alternating narrow and broad to the sides). The lower bow is narrower, D-section and tapers to a damaged point. Surviving length 36mm, surviving width 16mm. An unusual type for a rear hook, the bow owing much to the Aucissa/Hod Hill tradition. An example from Sibton…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Fragment of well-worked flint biface with even, deep flaking resulting in a thin cross-section; made of dark honey/medium brown flint. Its identification is uncertain: either a very large leaf-shaped arrowhead (unlikely) or a laurel leaf (rather finer than most) or a dagger (possibly, but quite broad and perhaps not quite fine enough) or an unpolished discoidal knife (though these are usually polished). Probably the fragment represents the tip of whatever object it is, although it is not impossible that it is a sharp butt with convex sides which expand quite rapidly. Probably Neoli…

Object type: CLOTH SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

Complete cloth seal, 18 mm in diameter. Disc 2 is stamped with the facing figure of an angel wearing a dress with elbow-length sleeves and a two-tier pleated skirt, holding an object in either hand. The head and wings are almost invisible. There are hints of a beaded border but no inscription around. Disc 1 is stamped with an incuse R and a possible T or I on its side; these are both at the very edge of the disc. The seal is in good condition. The angel device is usually found cast onto an inner disc of a four-part London alnage (cloth tax) seal, with the shield of the City of Lon…
