Fragment of possible medieval page holder, corroded trapezoidal plate (21 x 19mm) with concave narrow side with iron staining in centre on reverse (the only possible indication of attachment to an arm). Decoration on face comprises an engraved spiral with a saltire overall. 13th-14th century. Page-holders are objects like tweezers that may have served to hold several leaves of vellum together. See a similar page holder, found in a 13th-century context at Winchester (Biddle 1990, 756, no. 2326A).
