Opaque turquoise blue glass bead of uncertain date. The bead is oval in plan and circular in section with slight rims around the holes. It has a rough sided hole c.2.4mm in diameter running though it. It is 8.9mm long and 9.2mm in diameter and weighs 0.89 grams. Irregularity in the shape and a spiralling grain suggest it was made by being wound on a pontil. Although turquoise blue beads were popular in the Roman and Early Medieval period, those examples are usually more globular, distinctly wider in diameter than they are long. Guido (1978:70) comments that stray examples of such be…

Probable Weight. Cast conical weight with a rounded top and an irregular indentation at the base. A central longitudinal hole, probably cast using a former, tapers from 4.6mm to 3.5mm diameter from base to top. Patinated overall. The mass may suggest this object to represent one half of an (underweight) Roman pound or libra. The hole here could, have accommodated a suspension loop, the weight of which might have brought this object to match the Roman libra. Suggested date: Possibly Roman, 40-400. Diameter: 27.9mm, Height: 33.3mm, Weight: 157.52gms.

A corroded and worn lead-alloy uniface token of probable Medieval to Modern date (c. AD 1250-1800). It has a raised long cross design on one side, dividing the token into quarters; within each quarter is a single pellet. The other side is undecorated. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally. They are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval to late Post Medieval or Modern in date (c. AD 1250-1800).
